New Feature…Vintage Windows

9 May

Im sure these girls were not scrubbing the floor

I am starting a new weekly feature. How many of you remember the Retail Reporting Bureau? I do, in fact I have hundreds of the glossy 8 by 10s that were available by subscription. At one time they were “Le Must” for all the “trimmers” as we were called. Naturally they were very NYC centric a fact that hasn’t changed over the years, NYC retail still spends more on talent[sometimes] and materials than most other regions. The bureau is gone now but I have still have hundreds of the photos. It’s always a good thing to see where we have been to understand where we are going. Some of the displays are simply beautiful and others are just plain kitsch, but hey, we are in the fashion bis, fads come and fads go. The important issue lies in the ones that still look good, there in lies the art. Good taste is never out of style. Some of the names will be familiar [if you are of a certain age] and for those among us who were not around back then, look and learn.  hit the link it’s better if you go Full Screen

I was the editor for the Retail Reporting Service from 1985 till it became incorporated with the store planning service into a magazine. The latest form is Retail Design International.
